Women
Saints sign Caitlin Casey
8 Nov 2024
St Helens Women have revealed one of the most exciting young players in the Betfred Women’s Super League, Caitlin Casey, will be joining our team for the 2025 season.
She follows Amy Hardcastle and Shona Hoyle across the Pennines, as Saints recently announced they would be rejoining the Club.
The 20-year-old halfback joins the Saints following her departure from Leeds Rhinos where she came through in their youth ranks after being spotted whilst playing at Swillington ARFLC, and the Oulton Raidettes where she was part of a Women’s Championship Grand Final winning team in 2022.
Making her Leeds debut early in 2023, Casey enjoyed a breakthrough rookie season and guided the Rhinos around in the half-back position, making appearances in the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley and the Women’s Super League Grand Final, the latter of which she scored a try in.
Casey capped off a strong first Rhinos season by being named the 2023 Betfred Women’s Super League Young Player of the Year.
Further elite experience has come in 2024, with the young half showing off her strong skillset of passing, kicking, and running; all the tools needed from a number seven in rugby league. Casey was elevated from the England Knights National Performance Squad into the Senior Squad in 2024 too.
Choosing to take on a new challenge with the Saints for 2025, Caitlin finished her time at Leeds after making 36 appearances, scoring 14 tries and 14 goals for the club.
A delighted Caitlin Casey spoke about joining St Helens Women: “I'm really excited!” she said to saintsrlfc.com. “I’m looking forward to a fresh start and just getting stuck in with girls in pre-season.
“I've been enjoying my time at Leeds and it was great for my first few seasons, but I feel like I'm ready for a bit of change. I found out Dek and Craig were coaching and I’m really excited from the little bits I've had at England with them.
“I want to be the best player I can be and I feel like I can do that in a Saints shirt.”
Speaking about our new addition to the Red V Women, Joint Head Coaches Craig Richards and Derek Hardman welcomed Caitlin Casey to the Club.
Richards said: “I’m really excited to get to work with Caitlin, her talents are clear to see and there is much more to come from her. We want to help Catlin further develop over the coming years.”
Hardman commented: “I’m looking forward to watching Caitlin fulfill her potential, and we’re delighted to welcome her to the Saints.”
