BWSL: Round 14 Preview

The final round of the 2024 Betfred Women’s Super League season kicks off this Friday (13 September) with St Helens set to lift the League Leaders Shield for the second time in their history after they face Barrow Raiders at the Totally Wicked Stadium (KO 5.15pm).

The Raiders fell to a 64-6 defeat against Saints earlier this season and with Matty Smith’s side on a high, it could be another convincing win for the hosts on Friday. The Red V have confirmed they will host one of this year’s semi-finals but won’t know their opponents until after this weekend’s fixtures with Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos and the 2023 champions York Valkyrie all jostling for position.

Wigan host Leeds at The Brick Community Stadium on Friday (KO 5.3pm) live on Sky Sports with a win for either side boosting their hopes of a home tie in the semi-finals. Denis Bett's side sit fourth in the Super League table, two points behind the Rhinos. The Warriors have shown this season that they can be a difficult opponent to overcome, whether they're playing home or away, but interim head coach Leon Crick will be hoping he can spoil the party.

York travel to bottom placed Featherstone Rovers on Sunday (KO 12pm) with Lindsay Anfield’s side currently tied with Leeds on 20 points. The Valkyrie demolished Featherstone when they faced one another at the LNER Community Stadium earlier this season. A Savannah Andrade hat-trick inspired them to their outstanding eleven-try victory, and she’ll be hoping she can do the same this weekend.

Elsewhere, Huddersfield Giants will host Warrington Wolves at Laund Hill on Sunday (KO 2pm). Both teams are tied on six-points but have guaranteed their place in next year’s competition. The Giants had the better of Warrington when they met in July and will be confident they can do the same on home soil.

The Play-Off Semi Finals will be played on Sunday September 22 (kick-offs 5pm and 7.30pm), and both shown live on Sky Sports – who will also provide live and exclusive coverage of the Grand Final on Sunday October 6, at the home ground of the highest-ranked qualifiers.
